Metal Braces
Metal braces are the most traditional and most common form of braces. These braces use brackets and wires made from high-grade stainless steel to ensure their durability and effectiveness. Over time, braces technology has evolved into a more effective and discreet technique to enhance your smile.
There are many good reasons why metal braces remain the most popular orthodontic appliance. They are a reliable and effective treatment option while remaining affordable for almost all of our patients’ families. In contrast to the appliances of the past, modern metal braces feature smaller brackets that are more comfortable and less visible than they used to be. If your child want a less traditional look, they may be able to choose colorful elastics for the brackets or other modifications.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces (also called clear braces) are made from a clear, translucent material that closely resembles the natural color of your teeth, making them more discreet than traditional metal braces. They use the same components as traditional braces except that the brackets on the front side of the teeth are made of a translucent ceramic material that blends in with the tooth’s natural color.
Ceramic braces are especially popular among our middle and high school patients because they enhance their smiles without sacrificing their cosmetic appeal. The only downside of ceramic braces is that they are more fragile than traditional braces and may discolor in between orthodontic visits. Additionally, ceramic braces also cost more than their metal alternative; however, for many of our patients, the benefit of having an inconspicuous appliance outweighs the costs.
Lingual Braces
Lingual braces are the least conspicuous orthodontic treatment we offer at Pedodontics, P.C. They are placed on the opposite side of the teeth from standard braces, on the side closer to the tongue. They work the same way traditional metal braces do, but unlike metal braces, they’re completely invisible because they’re hidden behind the teeth themselves!
It’s important to note that lingual braces aren’t the proper treatment for every orthodontic condition. Special training is required to install them, and they’re significantly more expensive than standard braces. They also generally require a bit more time for the wearer to get used to them, and they may slightly prolong treatment. Talk to our pediatric orthodontist to see if lingual braces are the right option for your child
