Your First Dental Appointment in Omaha
If you have a baby who has reached his or her first birthday, or if it is within six months after their first tooth emerges, it’s time to schedule their first visit. These are the same guidelines provided by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. At Pedodontics, P.C., our number one goal of that first visit is to create a happy and welcoming atmosphere for your child. Our dental assistants and doctors are experienced in working with young children and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Our pleasant and relaxed office environment relieves any anxiety your child may have in visiting the dentist and builds trust for future visits.
Here are a few tips for preparing for that first visit:
- Talk to your child about his or her upcoming visit and encourage them to talk about any fears or nervousness they have about the appointment.
- Let your child know that our staff and doctors will describe everything that will happen to them in detail and answer any questions they, or you, may have.
- Don’t make visiting your Omaha dentist seem like a “big deal” and try not to use any words that might make them more afraid like “needle” or “drill.” Let us do the explaining as we are trained to do it in a more positive way.
During your first visit, our staff will document your child’s dental and medical history. Your child will receive an extensive exam and our doctors will discuss anything they find with you. We will also take the time to begin teaching your child and you about the best way to care, or provide care, for your child’s teeth. Our goal is always to maintain the best oral health possible and get your child started on his or her way to a beautiful, healthy smile.
Your First Orthodontist Appointment in Omaha
According to the American Association of Orthodontics, your child should have his or her first orthodontic appointment by age seven. One of the many advantages of having an orthodontist in the same practice as your pediatric dentist is that we will keep track of the growth of your child’s teeth, as well as jaw and mouth. While orthodontic treatment may not be needed while your child still has his or her baby teeth and their jaws are still growing, there are some conditions that are easier to treat at an early age.
At your child’s first Omaha orthodontist appointment, we offer a complete exam and then discuss any potential treatments that may be necessary now or in the future. We know that every patient is unique and if we find that you do need orthodontic treatment, we will individualize a plan of care to fit your unique needs.
After we have assessed your child’s records, our doctors take the time to explain every part of the process in detail. We will provide a complete clinical analysis about your orthodontic treatment needs, along with a written summary of what we find and a detailed plan that spells out the treatment and costs. We always encourage and answer your questions so that you completely understand the diagnosis and treatment options, along with a timetable and costs.
