At What Age
It’s easy to be confused as to when to take your child to the orthodontist for the first time. Is it when their first adult tooth comes in? The last one? Maybe it’s after their wisdom teeth have been removed! How can you be sure? At Pedodontics, P.C. we believe in preventative orthodontics measures. In order for you and your child to avoid the headache of steel or clear braces in the future, it may be wise to start treatments early on so that corrective strides can be taken in your child’s overall dental health.
Early Orthodontic Treatment
A child is welcome to come in, as early as the age of seven, for an early orthodontic consultation. A thorough check-up will be conducted, followed by your Omaha orthodontist going over their findings with you. The problems that appear in young children are most likely caused by actions such as the loss of teeth at too early or late in the stage or thumb sucking. These occurrences can cause your child’s teeth to become overcrowded, spaced out, rotated, or can even cause an over or under bite. In these instances, the most common forms of early orthodontic treatment are growth modifications or space maintenance:
